LIMITED TIME - Sam Echols Pop-Up Art Show and Sale at the Paseo Arts & Creativity Center!
Gallery II, 3024 Paseo
Sam graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class. He earned his BA in French at the University of Oklahoma (OU) and his MA in French at the University of Virginia (UVA). He studied and taught in the south of France on a Fulbright Scholarship. He taught French at the University of Virginia and in Massachusetts at Salem College.
As a young man Sam studied art at the Art Center School in Los Angeles. He began to seriously paint in the 1980s at the Art Students League in New York City, where he studied under Richard and Edith Goetz, originally from Oklahoma City. After moving back to Oklahoma City in the 1990s, Sam painted often at the Geatches Art Studio. He decided the studio should be open on Sundays and oversaw the additional hours in 1999. He spent time studying with Henry Hensche at The Cape School of Art in Provincetown, Maine, and painted briefly in Taos, New Mexico.
Although his work includes the genres of landscape and still life, portraits became Sam’s passion in art, completing hundreds if not thousands in the Paseo Art District over his thirty-year career. He dabbled with charcoals and pastels, but his work primarily consists of oils.
