ARTIST STATEMENT:
Trusting my intuition and using it as my guide, I follow the flowing stream of my most intense emotions and along the way, gathering inspiration from my vast collection of life’s memories, they serve as the root source, and the raw materials, in the creation of my mixed media collages.
Whether influenced by my Dutch identity, my life as an expatriate in America, or engrossed in dialogue with old photographs, paintings or memorabilia from my past, I like most of all to tell my stories by weaving vivid memories and experiences together.
Living in a foreign country away from my Dutch family and heritage, I am driven by the need and desire to tell these stories through my art. I dig into my moving boxes filled with memories, ready to explore and to find new connections.
BIO:
Born and raised in The Netherlands, Irmgard Geul received her art degree at the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht/The Netherlands. Her work is constantly evolving in the urge to map her memories and to tell her stories. Geul grew up in a small rural town south of Amsterdam and was raised in a large family of seven brothers and one sister.
In her new mixed media collages, she applies fabric and embroidery into her work in honor of her mother, her primary motivator, in pursuing her dream to becoming a full time artist.
Geul has gallery representation in Oklahoma and had several solo and group shows around the country. She currently lives and works on a ranch in Pauls Valley, OK and has collectors throughout the United States, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Colombia and Israel.
