CHRISTY EVEREST

I paint for the sheer joy of it. It simply makes me happy and it’s where my two passions, color and nature, can come together. Color lifts my spirits, calms my mind, energizes and inspires me. Nature does the same.

Water, skies, trees and flowers are frequent subjects of my acrylic and water color paintings. I enjoy using vibrant color to depict familiar scenes from favorite places; the shores of Lake Michigan, the beaches of Florida, the mountains of Colorado and my own backyard garden.

I learn so much and have so much fun being in Dennis Johnson’s class. With his guidance, I continue to experiment with different techniques and styles to develop and define my own unique style. I’m grateful to have had a lifelong appreciation of art and excited to create my own.

CURT GRUEL

Website

Curt Gruel began painting in earnest after retiring from orthopedic surgery. He is largely self-taught, but has benefitted from studying under William C. Hook, Mark Daniel Nelson and Scott Conary. Gruel works in acrylic, oil and watercolor. His favorite subjects are landscapes of his native Oklahoma and neighboring New Mexico, but he also ventures into abstracts, still life, interiors and figures. In his work he tries to convey a sense of solitude, serenity, stillness, spaciousness, balance and harmony– those qualities of presence that make his heart sing.

His subjects range from buildings, barns and houses, to golf course scenes and anything else that interests him. KATIE HENDERSON

Katie is known for her restless and expressive abstract paintings that employ the use of bold colors and gestural movements. Her large-scale works have been described as captivating, rich in dimension and design. Katie was an integral part of Oklahoma City’s important women’s art organization Fringe and was a featured artist in Oklahoma Contemporary’s signature annual ArtNow exhibition. SCOTT HENDERSON

As the Director of the smART Space Galleries atScience Museum Oklahoma, Scott Henderson’s goal is to educate the community about the symbiotic relationship between the arts and sciences. His formal art training was acquired at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and at the University of Central Oklahoma. He has been shown in many group and solo exhibitions around Oklahoma City and abroad. His works are included in important private, public and corporate collections. He mainly works in collage and mixed media with a focus on fantastic themes in correlation with self-identity. Using a characteristic collage style with a painterly approach his art presents new ways of looking at the world in relation to the graphic realm we are invariably surrounded by.

My painting/collages show the dichotomy between the comfortable familiarities of our environment and the veiled nature of reality. In my artwork, I express the ideas of individuation and archetypes and how they influence the psyche and the Self through the use of symbols, diagrams, multi layers, and textural imagery.

PHEBE KALLSTROM

Website

An Oklahoma City based artist, Kallstrom has been a lifelong student and teacher of art. Jessie Ann Wallentine - Headshot.jpg

JESSIE ANN WALLENTINE

Jessie Ann was born and raised in OKC. She always viewed herself as a choreographer. She loved creating and putting things together. She went to New York after college to choreograph Broadway plays before returning to OKC. While simultaneously teaching school, classical ballet and gymnastics, she was asked to choreograph what led to be part of the “beginning” of USA women’s gymnastics. Over the next 15 years, she personally choreographed and coached seven US Olympic gymnasts, developing their floor and balance beam routines. During this time, she as elected to be one of two women on the Foreign Relations Committee of Women’s Gymnastics. At 19, she was the youngest national and international judge for Women’s Gymnastics.

In 1997, she met and married Dr. Virgil Wallentine. He acts as a “color commentator” on her art. They cherish their time together, their blended families, and their eight very special grandchildren. The most important thing in her life has been family. She is still choreographing, but it’s now her family and art. Her daughter talked her into taking art lessons, and in 2014, she began taking lessons from Dennis Johnson at the Studio Gallery OKC and Annette Simpson in Scottsdale, AZ.

Whitney Watkins - Headshot.jpg

WHITNEY INGRAM WATKINS

Whitney Ingram Watkins’s creativity is inspired byher love of color and the natural beauty of the stones she uses. Whitney selects every bead, designs and creates each piece of jewelry. Gold dipped metals, silver, brass and copper combined with natural stones create unique conversation pieces. “I design jewelry that is unique and on-trend without being trendy. Women who wear my pieces define their own style.”

Whitney lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Andy and their two German Shepherds, Ziggy and Rosie. The couple’s love of travel has resulted in some beautiful and unique finds. Beads from Costa Rica to Colorado (and many places in between) make up her pieces. Whitney regularly attends the International Gem Show in Tucson and various regional bead shows. She uses only natural stones and high-quality findings. Each of her pieces is one of a kind and uniquely special, much like those who wear them.
